Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51M Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million watchers across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball reported this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American viewership reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
