PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.
The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.
The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.
However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.
From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.
Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
